So, let’s get started..

Part-1Key Points while Deciding a Blog Name

Here are a few points and facts that you should consider when you coming up with a blog name.

1. Go for a name that aligns your Blog vision

First of all, ask yourself, What’s your blog is going to be about? Who is your target audience and what topics you are planning to cover on your blog?

Because if you have spent hours and hours to decide a name for your blog and at the end if you have chosen a name that does not match your blog vision, then you have completely wasted your time.

For instance, if you have chosen “Photography Hub” as your blog name and then you decided to cover Tech related article on your blog.

Then it’s a bad decision..

So, it is always important to choose a name that matches your blog vision…

For Example – Syed balkhi named his blog “WPBeginner” where he covers topics related to WordPress for Beginner.

Steve Kamb named his blog “Nerd Fitness” where he covers fitness-related article.

2. Keep your domain name short

It is always recommended to go for a blog name that is short, catchy and easy to remember and read.

While it is not always possible that the name you have chosen fit in the above mentioned all criteria, still you have to consider this point while choosing a blog name. Select your Blog name or come up with a Domain Name for your Blog, so you can also get a short domain name.

Ultimately, you as a webmaster wants people to find your blog name on the internet easily and a short and catchy blog name definitely help with that.

Example of a Bad blog name:

Suppose you are Nick and you are planning to start a photography blog, After spending too much time you finally came up with a blog name called “ Nick adventurous Wildlife photography blog”

But unfortunately, it is not a good name, first of all, it is too long and it’ll be hard for your readers to remember your blog name.

Next, people will also be more prone to entering typos with this type of longer domain name.

So, I will always recommend you to keep your domain name under a maximum of 15 words.

Example of A good domain name:

CopyBlogger – A Blog who aims to improve the writing skills of the people.

Now as you can see this name is very short, unique, branded as well as easy to remember.

3. Don’t Use Numbers or Special Characters

Never create a domain name with a number and special character. In some cases, you may use a number if it is necessary, but try to avoid special character & hyphen in your domain name. For your search of how to come up with a blog name avoid special characters like !@#$%^&*()_, Instead of this go with simple and readable domain name.

If you use hyphens in your domain name just because the domain you are choosing is already taken. Then there is a high chance that your readers will likely end up at your competitor’s site if they forget to use a hyphen in the domain.

So, it is always better to choose a fresh name rather than a domain name containing a number, special character or hyphen.

Just imagine if Facebook domain name were  something like this “Face-book-6896.com

Quite pathetic isn’t?

4. Don’t use the trademark name

A major mistake that lots of people unknowingly made is choosing a blog name that includes a registered trademark.

For example – A domain name which includes Apple, BMW, Tata, WordPress, Google, etc…

Using someone registered trademark name as your domain name can create a legal issue in the future. You can read more about Trademark here.

5. Don’t do keyword stuffing

Some people do keyword stuffing on the name of EMD (Exact Match domain) or Keyword Rich domain. How to come up with a name for your blog with right keywords, here is exactly how?

Google used to give priority to Exact match domain in 2012-15, but now Google does not give such importance to EMD.

However, I will always recommend you to choose a keyword-rich domain. By including your main keyword in the domain name, you tell the search engine what your website is about. Come up with a blog name but keep keywords tricky like below example.

Together with quality content and good user experience, Keyword rich domain can actually help you in ranking higher in Google’s search engine.

Example Of A Bad domain Name  – Weightlosstricks.com

Example of a Good domain name –  NerdFitness.com

6. Go For .com domain only

There are more than 1000 domain name extensions available today and this number is growing day by day.

Among all of them .com TLD is still the most popular and recognizable domain extension followed by .org and .net. Most TLD is made for a specific purpose. For example – .Gov TLD is specially made for Government website. Same as every country also has specific domain extension. Like .in is for India, .US is for united state and so on.

These days many new cool and trendy domain extension has released like .pizza, .photography, and even .blog.

It may be fun to come up with a new funky domain extension, .com is still the most recognizable and trustworthy domain extension. Dot COM domains are best for use and they are on top-level It will help you in How to come up with a blog name.

Plus what I have personally realised that most of the people who are not aware with the term TLD or Domain extension, automatically type “.com” at the end of every domain name without thinking much about it.

In fact when I was new on the internet, I used to think that .com is the full domain name of any domain. Suppose if someone tells me to visit Bloggingnova website then i used to automatically type Bloggingnova.com because I had always thought that i have to enter .com at the end of every domain name in order to visit a website.

That’s why it is always recommended to go with .com domain extension.
